Do we all Work in Sales?
After enough sales and management seminars even the IT Manager can leave convinced that he is a sales person doing sales work & looking to sell his ideas for the next IT roll
out to the boss. Whilst your IT Manager may not be directly involved in sales and sales work, they perform a function that requires sales skills. Once accepting there are internal and
external customers, an organisation must consider its position with regards to the sales process and who they consider have sales work responsibilities. Creating a positive impression
and actually delivering on a product or service inevitably requires more than just the sales person doing the sales work on their own. The ability for those within an organisation to
communicate effectively with each other and engage with external customers has become increasingly important. Sales work completed by sales person, now called everything from
Account Manager to Business Development Manager must work to facilitate the relationships of colleagues and customers. For those working in sales that are able to build rapport and
maximise the abilities of others their role as an influencer is hugely significant.
As with most questions there isn’t one straight forward answer and sales work is no different. Yes it has become more important for everyone within an organisation to be customer
facing and whilst not everyone is in sales everyone has their role to play within the sales process. Whilst the role of the sales person has not changed in principal, their preparedness to
become more involved with colleagues and contributing departments has further tested sales skills.
